ABOUT

Alexey BIRKUS is a French operatic bass of Slavic origin, celebrated for the depth and warmth of his voice across the global stage.

He began his musical journey in an Orthodox choir touring Europe.  He trained at the Minsk University of Performing Arts and the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, before graduating with honors from the Zurich University of the Arts. He was selected for Basel Opera’s elite OperAvenir program and refined his craft with masters including Teresa Berganza, Vincenzo Manno, and Vittorio Terranova in Milan.

After gaining acclaim at the Salzburg Opera—particularly as Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin—he was awarded Best Young Singer at the Austrian Music & Theater Awards (2015). He has since become a fixture at the National Opera of Nuremberg, praised for his interpretations of both classical and Wagnerian repertoire, and was a finalist at the prestigious Meistersinger von Nürnberg competition.

Alexey’s international engagements include roles such as King Marke (Tristan und Isolde) in Italy, Sir Giorgio (I Puritani) in Trieste, and the title role of Don Giovanni in Graz. His performance as Moïse in Rossini’s Moïse—in a rare French-language production—was recorded and widely acclaimed.

In 2021, he won the Clermont-Ferrand & Vichy International Singing Competition, followed by a triumphant French tour as Count Rodolfo in La Sonnambula, and a powerful debut as Zaccaria in Nabucco. Most recently, he has sung around the world and also in concerts and private galas in France and abroad.

Alexey BIRKUS’ calling is to represent the finest of French vocal artistry on the international stage.
